Waiting for Teddy
We’re going to be slammed tonight and tomorrow morning by the end of Hurricane Teddy, but the past three days have been golden.
We started to clear a portion of our back acreage this summer and came up with some rocks, all of which we have not yet found a use for. I don’t pay much attention to the landscape back here but every time I walk out of the barn, I see this display of “weeds” (maybe ‘wildflowers’ is more accurate?). It strikes me as an ephemeral thing of beauty.
What’s the last unexpected beauty you’ve found?

I never thought blue sky would be an unexpected beauty but we had been living under a cloud of smoke and ash from a nearby fire (not near enough to be of harm to our neighborhood, but the smoke covered all of Los Angeles) for about a week. When the sky became blue again after all those days of a strange white smoky mist, it was beautiful.
Teddy turned out to be almost cuddly, Judy. Thanks for reminding me about your blue sky. It’s something I take so for granted, but I’ve stopped today to appreciate it, as I should every day.
Keep safe. In California we have to deal with fires (a lot), wind storms and earthquakes but the sheer force of a hurricane would worry me a great deal. I am such a worrier as it is.
That view out the back is very pretty. Last unexpected beauty? There is a moment in the morning when the sun comes up and it’s the time of the year where it streams through the window just right and creates light beams across my living room floor. The pup will choose a spot on the floor to bask in those beams. I love it.
The sun can be so beautiful this time of year, can’t it? I sometimes think of autumn sun as butterscotch. I love that your pup indulges in it too. Thanks for sharing and welcome, Ti!
I never think of Canada as having hurricanes. Glad Teddy didn’t turn out to be too dangerous.
I think it’s only the East Coast that is susceptible, Deb, much like in the USA.
Last unexpected beauty? Hmm … I’m not sure it’s unexpected but the spring blossoms here seem to have been particularly lovely this year, either because it’s been a good season or because the year we’ve had has made them so much more welcome!
BTW Glad all was well with the hurricane.
Spring blooms are such a treasure, Sue. I’m glad they’re a bright spot for you.
Sometimes when I’m running, I will come across a gorgeous fall leaf – blending red and yellow and orange – lying on the asphalt, and that contrast of dark and bright color always makes me smile.
Someone else could see that it has fallen off the tree and be discouraged, Julia, but I love that you can see the bright side. It’s one of the biggest secrets to calmness of mind.
