The Sun Sets While the Thunder Rumbles
August2
There’s thunderstorms somewhere around here this evening – we hear them in the distance and every so often see a faint flash of lightning. The dogs are not happy, as unused to the sound of thunder as they are.
Meanwhile, sunset came and went behind the clouds, lighting up the western sky with these gorgeous colors.
I never tire of sunsets; in the city, we seldom saw them as the buildings blocked our view.
The thunderstorms you speak of were directly above my house in Halifax. They went on for hours. Some of the worst (or best, depending on your love of thunderstorms) ever. Your dogs would not have been happy.
Suzanne, I’m really sorry you got the storms and, at the same time, really glad we didn’t. One of the advantages of living in Nova Scotia, to me, is that we get rain (and lots of it!) without thunderstorms. That was RARE in southern Ontario.
Even though we’re only two hours apart, the weather on the North & South Shores can be so different, so I don’t know if you regularly get such weather. Here on the North Shore, I think we’ve had more thunder & lightning this summer than in the previous seven summers combined. What a year – all over!
Funny you should mention Ontario storms because in the eight years since I returned to Nova Scotia, last night was the closest I’ve come to experiencing an Ontario-style thunderstorm.
What a light show last night! It started here around 7:30 and continued long into the morning, finally quieting down a little after 4am. Distant thunder rumbles as I type … hope we don’t get a repeat show, it was kind of cool last night but one night with no sleep is enough for awhile.
One night is surely enough. I just hope these Ontario-type storms and light shows are not a taste of our future weather patterns.
