Bucket List Reading Challenge 2012
Jamie over at The Eclectic Bookshelf (love that name) is hosting an intriguing challenge this year: a personal Bucket List of books I’ve wanted to read (most for years) but haven’t gotten around to.
I’m entering at the “Mid-Sized Sedan” level of 8 books. But, hey, one of these is supposedly the longest novel available in English, so cut me some slack.
1. A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth
2. London by Edward Rutherford
3. Collected Stories of Carol Shields
4. Walden by Henry David Thoreau
5. The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler
6. How Green Was My Valley by Richard LLewellyn (a re-read)
7. Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck
8. Memoirs by Pierre Elliott Trudeau
I’ve read Walden several times but have never been to the actual Walden Pond. Seems like every time we’re anywhere near it we’re in a hurry to get someplace. I’ve always wanted to read Travels with Charley but that’s just one I’ve never had time for. So many books, so little time.
I do have a bucket list but it’s for places I want to go and things I want to do before I die.
Has Walden Pond become commercialized or would it be a contemplative visit? I can’t believe that I haven’t gotten around to reading this yet!
Too, too many books, too, too little time!
There is a public beach there but I don’t think the pond has been commercialized to the point that you wouldn’t want to go there. It’s still, according to what I’ve read about it, a place where you can contemplate what Thoreau did there.
